Individual grants

How do I find a therapist?

The Quaker Mental Health Fund can only give grants where you have already identified a registered therapist, practitioner or service who will work with you. Please include their name and professional registration details in your application.

If you haven't yet found a therapist then you can find a list of Accredited Registers here to help find someone to support you.

Accredited Registers include: 

British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

How much funding could I receive?

Individuals may apply for a grant of up to £1,000 at a time. In total we may give a maximum of £2,000 per individual over subsequent grants, subject to funding availability. This works to ensure we can support as many individuals as possible.

Can QMHF fund activities such as respite support?

Yes, we can fund activities such as respite. 

Can QMHF fund therapies for carers of those with mental health issues? 

Yes, QMHF can fund therapies for carers.

What do you define as a connection to Quakers?

The Quaker Mental Health Fund can only give grants to people who are Quakers, or who have strong Quaker links. This means that you may be a member or an attender at a meeting or you might be part of Quaker groups within Britain Yearly Meeting. 

What information do you need in an application?

The application form will ask for your contact information, your Quaker connection, the reasons that you are applying for a grant, and details of your therapist, practitioner or service.

Will I receive the funds directly? 

No, our grants cannot be paid to the applicant directly. The grant will be paid to your therapist, practitioner, or counsellor when they submit an invoice for their work. If there are difficulties with this we will liaise with them directly. 

My therapist requires to be paid before my therapy, is this possible? 

Yes, if your grant application is successful, the therapist should invoice us directly for payment. We cannot provide grants for sessions which have already happened. 

How long should I expect to wait to hear back about my application? 

Our grants panel meets every 2 weeks to review applications. You should expect to receive a response from us within a month of submission.

Project grants

What type of projects does QMHF fund?

QMHF funds projects which are related to improving mental health and are either led by Quakers or centre Quaker values or a Quaker ethos. QMHF prioritises the funding of projects with outputs which can be achieved within 1-2 years of funding. QMHF funds projects that are cost-effective and can demonstrate impact. 

Does QMHF fund academic study or research?

No, QMHF does not fund academic study or research. 

How much project funding can be awarded?

A maximum of £10,000 over the lifetime of the project. ​

What should be included in a project application?

QMHF requires all projects to submit the following supporting information:

  • A detailed summary of the project objectives and outputs

  • A named project contact

  • Quaker connection and/or affiliation

  • Supporting Friend information

  • Project management information including: budget, financial and accounting management, and resourcing plans.  

  • Safeguarding statement

  • Disclosure of any other funding for the project​

How long should I expect to wait to receive a funding decision?

All project applications are reviewed by the board. The board meets every 2 months. You should expect to receive an acknowledgement of your project application within 2 weeks of submission.
